How Sidepot Works
1) CFB Sidepot Fee
Contestants enter the CFB Sidepot at the
roping by paying the $50 sidepot fee.
They are added to the Contestant List,
which is posted with the draw before the
roping begins.

2) Awarding of Spots
There are 4 Spots awarded at each qualifier roping with 3 Spots awarded to the top/fastest in the Sidepot (this may be pro or amateurs) and the 4th Spot is awarded to the next fastest amateur roper.

3) CFB Entry Fee
The 4 Ropers that get Spots will also be responsible to pay the remaining $280 entry fee which is due with the entry form on August 17 @ Noon. If payment is not received, then we will roll down.
Note: This change to Sidepot fees was done to make it more affordable. In previous years, ropers were paying for just a chance at getting a Spot. Now you are paying the $280, after you know that you have a Spot. In previous years, contestants were paying the old $150 or $200 fee multiple times before they won a spot.
Note:
– Each contestant can only enter the CFB Sidepot once at a qualifier event.
– Each contestant can only get 1 CFB Spot at a qualifier event.
– Each contestants best/fastest entry will be used for the Sidepot.
– Contestants must have a qualified time to be eligible for spots.
Classification of Ropers
A Pro Roper: The Roper is a full pro card member or semi-pro member of the CPRA or WPRA.
An Amateur Roper: The Roper has never roped at a pro rodeo or is a permit holder.
Note: This is a change from last year when semi-pro members were considered amateur.
For awarding spots, a ropers pro or amateur status is determined as of the day of the qualifier. If a roper turns pro later in the year (after a qualifier) then that does not affect spots from a previous qualifier. However, this roper that turned pro later in the year, would still be considered a pro at the CFB Event. This is why on the CFB entry form before the event, ropers restate their status as a pro or amateur.
Other Info:
Format for Qualifications: The format for CFB qualifications is typically the same as the roping’s format. For example, a roping with two head and a short go, would have the CFB Spots awarded based on total time on 3 head. If there is an irregular roping format then it will be declared on the event poster how spots are awarded (e.g. CFB Sidepot based on first two rounds only).
Event Requirements: Qualifiers are open breakaway ropings or rodeos (no age classification, invitationals or equalization) and contestants must be women. Associations/rodeos that require a membership to enter, must have an option for contestants to local enter without a membership.
Results: CFB results are unofficial until CFB has reviewed and approved. Each event submits a copy of the official timer scoresheets (showing times in each round), a copy of the average/final placings, and the Contestant List. Sidepot results from each event will be posted on the CFB website.
Ties: All ties for CFB Spots will be broken. There are only 4 Spots awarded at each qualifier.
Ties in the average will be broken by the fastest time in the Short Go. If the Short Go is tied as well, then that would be broken by the preceding round, and so forth. The only exception will be at a rodeo where there is only 1 round. If there are only 2 ropers tied for the last spot then CFB will take both. If there are 3 or more ropers tied for the last spot, then CFB will do a random draw with contestant’s names in a hat.
Spots: A roper can be awarded a maximum of 2 CFB Spots. These could be from the same category or different categories (e.g. 1 Spot as an Invited Roper and 1 Spot from a CFB Qualifier). Spots are awarded to the specific roper and are not transferrable to other ropers.
CFB Qualifiers are 1 of 4 ways to qualify in 2026. Visit the Format page for full information on the 2026 Season.
